Lasertel, a Leonardo company, remains a key US subsidiary of Leonardo and represents an important capability in laser technology for critical defense programs. Lasertel provides high power laser components and integrated system solutions for platforms including UAVs, space and airborne applications, and next generation man-portable systems. Lasertel’s laser diodes are currently found in nearly 20 defense programs.
Lasertel also works closely with Selex Galileo Inc., a Leonardo company specializing in laser designators, which acquired Lasertel in 2009. This partnership helps ensure optimal performance and cost for laser systems and minimizes supply chain risk for mission-critical programs.
Directed energy is an important directional shift for defense, anticipated to be a $66B investment worldwide between 2010 and 2034. Lasertel is developing laser diode platforms suitable for both high-energy lasers and low-energy lasers, for air-to-ground, airborne, and surface-based directed energy.
